I very much enjoyed reading Martha’s recent post on ribbon love and upcycled storage glass jars. By coincidence, I had just ordered some ribbons myself and they just arrived.

With excitement and joy, let me show you the little group that is going to join my small but happy Ribbons family. There are six of them: 4 embroidered (Strawberries, Forest Friends, Best Friends, Farmyard Animals) and 2 grosgrain (Bunting and Buttons).

They just arrived :)

As they just arrived 🙂

I ordered them from Blooming Felt and they have been promptly and flawlessly delivered. They even added a kind hand note on an upcoming event: the Knitting and Stitching Show in London, 10-13th October. If London is not a convenient location for you, there are further appointments: 31st October to 3rd November in Dublin, and 21st to 24th November in Harrogate (full details here). I’ll probably visit, although I’m not entirely sure that it’s a wise idea from a student financial perspective!

When my budget allows, I’m planning to add further members to the Ribbons: a German Etsy shop, FreuleinStephi, offers amazing ribbons produced in more than a century old traditional looms in Germany. Mind you, quality always comes at a price, but it’s well worth!

Best Friends and Farmyard Animals

Strawberry may be (not sure yet) integrated in my knitting WIP Lazy Sunday bag. I’m also planning to add some crochet leaves made adapting the LOTR inspired leaf clasp  free pattern (Ravelry project page).

Speaking of crochet, I just remembered an old crochet FO of mine: a border I made on an Austrian table cloth that a friend kindly gave me – sadly the HallTex factory in Tirol that used to produce those high-quality fabrics has now gone. Sign of the times? hopefully a trend that is reversing. Let’s keep buying local products 🙂

  1. I can wholly understand your excitement. They are simply stunning! I’m also intrigued as to how you’ve managed to put hearts in your post title! Very creative indeed! x

Lovely, super sweet ribbons – i think the 1st three are my faves – bunting, buttons and strawberries. i should have a closer look at that blooming felt – i keep seeing their ads in craft magazines.
wonder what you’re gonna do with your ribbons.
are you going to use them on your sewn / crocheted/knitted stuff or do you also make cards? 🙂

      Hi Martha!
To be honest, I’m not yet sure what it will be of them… maybe they’ll just stay in the family, as some of yours 😉
It all started when I was looking for some strawberry ribbon to try on my Lazy Sunday bag, but the rest just asked me to come along… lol
I always have loved ribbons, just can’t stop buying when I see cute ones…. do you know that feeling?

I just noticed that WP ate my first post paragraph, where I was mentioning your ribbon post… doh!
I reinstated it now, hope you don’t mind the mention? I just loved your post so much!
      xx

      • Martha says:

Thank you for the mention. Very kind of you 🙂
will be catching up with the blogs over the weekend. this week is going fast for me!

        Hello Martha,
No worries, you’re welcome to visit if and when you have time 🙂 Some weeks are just too busy to squeeze everything in 😉
        good night

    Very nice ribbons. Good choices

How I love the strawberry and farm animal ribbon! Great links and your beautiful Austrian tablecloth has inspired me to spruce up some table linens I found at the thrift store. Too bad London is not in my neighborhood, that knitting and stitching show looks great! ♥ Johanna

    • itwasjudith says:

      Dear Johanna,
Hope your and Charlie Dog’s weekend is being relaxing 🙂
I love good old linen table clothes, they’re such a good quality! What are you planning to do with yours? I recently found some “souvenir” linen from exotic places, maybe one day I’ll turn them into something else..
Show: I’m almost fearing to actually go… I sense that it’s going to kill my budget 😉

  5. Crochet! Now you’re speaking my language. I love the barnyard animals ribbon. Makes me want to write a story with all the characters!

    • itwasjudith says:

🙂 I used to crochet in the past, then i got lost on the way… but i do love nice borders, especially on quality or traditional fabrics (of which I have a little stash somewhere). What do you like to crochet?
An animal story would make for a very good reading, me thinks!

Those ribbons are gorgeous!! I’m always on the lookout for nice ribbon too. They make good linings for cardigan button bands. It’s Very hard to find good ribbon in NZ.

  7. Tina says:

I love the ribbons and now have thoughts of buying some too for projects. Your crochet is so lovely 🙂

    • itwasjudith says:

Thank you, that is so kind 🙂 I made the crochet work while ago and completely forgot about it!
Just used some of the strawberry ribbon on a bag, it’s really pretty on it. Ribbon give a nice touch and refine the item. That seller has a wide range, fair prices and ships worldwide, in case you won’t find locally.
      Have a nice week!

  8. The ribbons are so lovely, they look really nice quality too ribbon I can get locally can so often look cheap.

    • itwasjudith says:

Thank you! They look better than I expected, because the price tag was reasonable 🙂
I’m still waiting to try the ones by the German producer, because they look great and the material is of high quality 🙂 I will report if/when I get to order some..

  9. I love ribbons too and was just sorting through my box last night, starting to carefully roll them up… then got impatient and plonked them in as before! I think I like the bunting ones best of all – the colours and print are stunning. Cath

    • itwasjudith says:

      Hello Cath,
Thanks for your comment and visiting!
I really had fun picking these ones up, they had such a wide choice… but I’m planning to get some more soon!
I’ll have to organise mines in a better way, before it gets all too messy 😉
      have a nice day!
